Static Control Honored with Customer Service of the Year Award
Company reports from another successful Paperworld
Sanford, N.C. – (February 11, 2019) – Static
Control was honored at the recent Recycler Award event held during this year’s
Paperworld tradeshow in Frankfurt,
Germany. Static Control received the coveted Customer Service of the
Year award, the second time the company has received this honor.
“We’re absolutely delighted,” explained Static
Control's CEO Ken Lalley, who accepted the award for the company. “It’s a
reflection of our commitment to our customers. We’re thrilled – thank you to
our customers, and all who voted for us!”
Static Control has won a Recycler Award annually since
the ceremony started in 2015. Previous accolades include two “Supplier of the
Year” awards and an “Innovation of the Year” honor.
Lalley added, “Without the continued support of the
remanufacturing industry, we wouldn’t have been nominated. We will continue our
deep commitment to working hard and maintaining the highest level of service
our customers deserve.”
The award was the zenith for the company during a
successful Paperworld show. Static Control played host to a consistently packed
stand, with many face-to-face meetings between customers and sales team
members.
Static Control’s General Sales Manager Paul Needham presented information at
the show about the decaBDE issue rippling through the industry. “The issue is
widespread, and it impacts compatible and remanufactured cartridges, along with
components. As an industry, we must work together to hold plastic suppliers to
the standards that have been set forth in environmental regulations.”
Static Control’s European cartridge and component
offering comply with RoHS and REACH standards.
Needham looks forward to next year’s event. “For us, it is a great opportunity
to meet with a lot of our European partners,” he said. “It’s an important time
in our industry, and it’s a great opportunity to discuss the many changes along
with the growth opportunities, with our customers.”

Static Control Responds to Allegations
Sanford, N.C. – (January 11, 2019) – In December,
Static Control responded to allegations of an unauthorized substance being in a
limited number of cartridges based on an article in the German publication Digital Imaging.
Static Control investigated internally
and sent cartridges and components used for remanufacturing cartridges to LGA,
a third-party, independent laboratory based in Germany for immediate testing.
The investigation revealed the majority of Static Control cartridges and
components complied with all applicable environmental regulations but a small
number of cartridges contained a fire-retardant chemical that is restricted by
RoHS.
LGA also discovered that some of the Static Control
cartridge models previously alleged in the original article to contain the
chemical were actually found to comply with the regulations, contradicting the
report supplied. The inconsistent test results further fueled Static Control’s
desire to investigate this issue thoroughly. The issue relates to using
recycled plastics. The chemical is specifically used to aid the use of recycled
plastics.
Static Control began an audit of all plastics in our
product line, both for cartridges and components to ensure either new plastics
were used or the recycled product was free of the flame-retardant
chemical.
In addition, we tested offerings from a broad
selection of the industry with both cartridges and components, including some
of our competitors. The fire-retardant chemical was found in the vast majority
of the industry samples tested and in all of the competitor cartridges and
components submitted to our laboratory. These results indicate that the fire
retardant’s s presence is endemic in the industry and affects compatible
cartridges, remanufactured cartridges and components.
We have discussed the implications of the testing with
ETIRA and fully expect to provide more information in the coming weeks.
Since our December announcement, Static Control’s
European cartridge offering has been free of the fire retardant- chemical.
Since our audit, we can confirm that all Static Control components and
cartridges sold at this time in Europe comply with RoHS and REACH requirements.
As always, Static Control remains diligent in
complying with all applicable environmental regulations around the world and
will continue to take all necessary steps to remain RoHS and REACH compliant.

STATIC CONTROL ADDRESSES
PLASTICS ISSUE

Static Control has investigated a
recent allegation that the plastics
used in some of its cartridges may have been contaminated with an unauthorized
substance.
The investigation disclosed the majority
of Static Control cartridges were in compliance with all applicable
environmental regulations and that a small number of cartridges contained
an unauthorized substance in the plastic molding.
Static
Control determined this contaminated plastic came from a rogue raw material
supplier. Static Control acted immediately to remedy this issue in the affected
cartridge lines. As of today, Static Control has eliminated the contaminated
plastic from these cartridge lines and has taken the necessary actions with the
vendor to ensure no further compliance issues occur.
Static Control will continue to be
diligent in ensuring that all its cartridge and component products are fully
compliant with all applicable environmental regulations from the various
regions of the world.

Static Control’s Skip London
Awarded Diamond Pioneering Award
Sanford, N.C. – (November 2, 2018) – Static Control’s
long-time General Counsel William “Skip” London received the Diamond Pioneering
Award at this year’s RT Media Global Industry Awards
Ceremony held at the Remaxworld Expo show in Zhuhai, China. The award was given
to him in recognition of London’s
continual fight for the aftermarket in courthouses around the world.
“For almost thirty years, Skip has worked tirelessly
as an advocate for the imaging industry aftermarket. His work, under the
auspices of Static Control and on behalf of the Int’l ITC and its members, went
unheralded. He was the unsung hero of the aftermarket, and that never
slowed him down,” said Tricia Judge, executive director of the International
ITC and one of the judges of the award.
“Skip’s command of the industry’s many complicated
legal issues has led to so many industry successes. When they established the
Diamond Pioneering Award for an industry leader, I immediately thought of Skip,
and I nominated him. Apparently, many other smart people in the industry
knew about Skip’s dedication, and he won this very special award. Skip
deserves all the accolades, but would be the first one to defer them to someone
else. He is an industry pioneer, and has always been there when the
industry needed him and his razor-sharp legal mind. Art Diamond would
wholeheartedly agree that Skip deserves this award.”
The award is named after Art Diamond, an imaging
industry icon who passed away in 2016. Nominations were received earlier this
year, and an independent panel of 14 judges from eight countries selected London as this year’s
recipient.
“I first
entered the aftermarket in 1991 representing Static Control. In those years,
Static Control has been involved in cases that mattered not just to Static
Control but to the aftermarket as whole. I’m proud of the aftermarket’s right
to exist,” said Londonin his acceptance speech. “While the people and cases change through the years,
one thing has remained constant – the aftermarket’s ability to adapt and
change.”
